In tandem with our efforts over time to identify and select the Italian and international grape varieties best suited to our local microclimate, we have never ceased to focus on those vines native to Lazio which have been rediscovered in neighbouring districts. Such varieties include the Biancolella of Ponza and the Bellone of Anzio.<\/p>\n<\/div>

THE BIANCOLELLA PROJECT
\nON PONZA<\/h1>\n

The year 2010 saw the launch of a research project on the island of Ponza which led to the rediscovery and positive reassessment of the Biancolella grape.<\/p>\n

This variety was first introduced to Ponza in the 18th century by settlers from Ischia, sent by the Bourbon monarch of Naples to produce timber for the kingdom\u2019s fleet.<\/p>\n

The label is dedicated to the Guardia Lighthouse which has dominated the island\u2019s southern cliffs since 1886.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

THE BELLONE PROJECT
\nIN ANZIO<\/h1>\n

The coastal area around the town of Anzio, where passionate winemakers still cultivated the ancient Bellone grape, was chosen for a research project in 2012; \u00a0a choice in keeping with the claim of those farmers of the past \u00a0that \u201cBellone thrives on sea air\u201d.<\/p>\n

The wine is named \u201cAnthium\u201d in honour of the town. The grapes come from very old un-grafted vineyards where, over time, a perfect harmony of vine, soil, climate and local tradition has been achieved.<\/p>\n

\u201cRADIX\u201d, a Bellone reserve 2015 aged in barrique and amphora, was released in 2019.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

THE PECORINO PROJECT
\nBETWEEN ACCUMOLI AND AMATRICE<\/h1>\n

After long years of experimentation with local grapes the Pecorino Project finally took off in April 2018 in the hill town of Accumoli, right where the devastating 2016 earthquake did the most damage. 5,000 cuttings were planted on a hectare of land, 850 metres above sea level.<\/p>\n

This particular site makes the Pecorino from these parts the ideal starting point for the production \u2013 by the classic method \u2013 of a sparkling wine of great finesse.
\nIt will take several more years however to reach the final goal.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
